Menu Activity

1. Pair up students.

2. Have each pair pick a restaurant (with type, ambiance, and price range) out of a hat. (I have found that if I give them a real restaurant name they plagiarize from that restaurant’s menu so I give them general descriptions.)

3. Complete activity

One of the most common examples I have found of visuals, design and descriptions is the Menu

(perhaps I am tainted by my love of food).  Your challenge is to design a restaurant menu.  This

menu must contain the following items:

  •   A Title
  •   Headings
  •   Visuals
  •   Menu items & prices (at least 10)
  •   Descriptions/definitions

Other possibilities include horizontal and vertical lines, shapes, columns, text bars pictures

and/or clip art.   Have fun and be creative.  You may use a template but carefully consider your

assigned restaurant and its natural ambiance and audience.

4. Have students travel room to view menus and vote on board with tally marks for the best team menu (that is not their own).

5. Give winning partnership candy bars (or other prize). I have attached a student sample of an ice cream shop (prices are way off….maybe it’s organic).
